Math Level B
In Level B, students study vertical addition and subtraction by using the mental calculation skills they have developed in previous levels. In the first half of Level B, students focus on addition of 2-digit numbers before studying addition of 3-digit numbers. Similarly, in the second half of the level, students study subtraction of 2-digit numbers before moving on to subtraction of 3-digit numbers.
● Level B Goals:
Use memorized facts to answer 2 and 3 digit vertical addition and subtraction problems
Mentally calculate answers
Do not show regrouping marks (borrow or carry marks)
● Good Work Skills in this level include:
Writing the same size as the numbers on the page
Using patterns to help answer problems
Immediately moving down the page answering question after question without hesitation
The ability to correct easily and independently (don’t forget to grade every day!)
Studying incorrect answers and erase only the part that is incorrect, then correct it
● Quick Tips:
Students, who have never learned to use regrouping marks, won’t miss them. So parents please don’t teach them!
● Time Goal:
2-4 minutes per page
The study time goal is 20-30 minutes per day.
Your Instructor will continually adjust the number of pages your child is studying to adhere to this goal
● Grading Reminders:
Students must be able to learn from their mistakes daily
Take the time to grade and let them find and correct their own errors independently
Students can use what they have learned and apply it to the next day’s assignment allowing them to move smoothly and independently through the assignments.
