Math Level A

Level A continues horizontal addition with larger numbers. Mastering addition ensures a smooth introduction to subtraction in this level. Level A aims to develop mental calculations while strengthening students’ concentration ability and work skills.

● Level A Goals:

  • Memorize addition facts 1-10

  • Add two digit + one digit numbers horizontally ( 17 + 8)

  • Learn and memorize subtraction facts

● Good Work Skills in this level include:

  • Writing the same size as the numbers on the page

  • Using patterns to help memorize math fact

  • Memorizing facts - don’t use fingers or count up

  • Immediately moving down the page answering question after question without hesitation

  • The ability to correct easily and independently (don’t forget to grade every day!)

● Quick Tips:

  • Students may struggle with problems like 17 + 8 = 25. We guide them by saying “remember 7+8? Now just add ten more!”

  • Students may benefit from reading the subtraction problem backwards to check accuracy or learn from what they addition facts in level 2a. 9 – 4 = 5 therefore 5 + 4 = 9

● Time Goal:

  • 1-2 minutes per page

  • The study time goal is 20-30 minutes per day.

  • Your Instructor will continually adjust the number of pages your child is studying to adhere to this goal

● Grading Reminders:

  • Students must be able to learn from their mistakes daily

  • Take the time to grade and let them find and correct their own errors independently

  • Students can use what they have learned and apply it to the next day’s assignment allowing them to move smoothly and independently through the assignments.
